Mentor Monday – Mentees Speak

Mentor Monday – Mentees Speak

In November, Anne Roe, HOPE Academy Mentor Program Facilitator shared with us why the mentor program at HOPE was created and how it can remind us that we are “not in this alone, we are stronger together.” (Click HERE to read the full post)

Measuring success in the mentorship program mainly is dictated by those participating in the program. With the mentorship program we are continuing to hear stories of how their families are being helped in big and small ways. Having been a mentee myself, I can attest to the power of having that guidance and reassurance that can only come from from someone who has walked this University-Model® Schools path.

Recently we asked mentees, currently participating in HOPE Academy’s mentorship program their thoughts on the value of having a mentor and meetings.

Mentor Monday

Here’s what they said:

Shortly after the school year began, my husband had a horrible accident and had to have several surgeries and many treatments. It was a very stressful time for our family. My mentor, who I had not yet even met, immediately reached out to me, prayed for us, and asked how our family could be served. I was so surprised and caught off guard, as it was unusual for me to experience such genuine kindness and caring.  Since then, we have developed a relationship that transcends the original scope of mentor/mentee.  I have directly experienced the power and the importance of this program.

My mentor has been a great help in our orientation at Hope.  She took the time to meet with me early on and made herself available for questions.  Before the first culminating event, she sent me a very informative email on what to expect, without which I would have been pretty lost.  She answered any questions very quickly.  I have really appreciated her support through the first semester.

– Margaret H.

My mentor has made herself so available to me. She’s been a great resource when I’ve been a little confused on an assignment. I’m so glad I’ve had her so I didn’t have to bother a teacher or figure out who to call.

– Sarah F.

The Mentor Program gives you an immediate connection to Hope.  A recognizable face in a new environment is very comforting.

The mentor/mentee program was a highlight of our first year at Hope. God worked in an amazing way by giving me a mentor whose husband works the same crazy schedule as mine! She understood so many of the challenges and rewards that the first year can bring! It is because of the mentor/mentee program that our first year at Hope was such a great success!

– Kristie D. (Former Mentee, current Mentor)

The above testimonies are only some of many stories that show that having a mentor is direct life line to information that only those who’ve been through the experience can give. The program is one testament of how God is using families at HOPE Academy to do His work. God encourages us to lean on each other for support, to accept help from others as well as helping those in need, especially our brothers and sisters in faith.

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. Galations 6:9-10
