Faithful Friday – Faithful in the Small Things

Faithful Friday – Faithful in the Small Things

Welcome to this week’s Faithful Friday. God is so good to us and we want to share the stories that will inspire you to remember moments when God has been faithful in your life.

Today’s post comes from Susan Ballew who is a wife, mother of 3 HOPE Academy students and works as the 4 and 5 year-old Coordinator at Mecklenburg Community Church. Today Susan shares how God works in our life through the big things AND the small things. If you are weary, let her story inspire you to seek God for strength and refuge.

It was a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. One of those days when you just want to go to bed and start fresh the next day. The kind of day that leaves you drained, depleted, wondering if everything you touch will fall apart. And on top of that I could sense a restlessness in my soul. That feeling that something needed to change, but I didn’t know what.

Unable to sleep, I climbed out of bed and sought out my quiet place while the words of a familiar song played through my mind:

I’m tired, I’m worn
My heart is heavy
From the work it takes
To keep on breathing
I’ve made mistakes
I’ve let my hope fail
My soul feels crushed
By the weight of this world
And I know that You can give me rest
So I cry out with all that I have left

The weight of the day and my heavy heart spilled across the pages of my prayer journal as I poured it all out before God. The frustration, exhaustion, helplessness…a plea for God to remind me of his love…and then simply, “Lord, I will trust you. Show me the next step.”

I reached for my Bible which lay open to Psalm 143. Verse 8 jumped off the page:

“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
For I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go,
For to you I lift up my soul.”

David’s words, so similar to my own, enveloped my soul like a hug. They brought reassurance. God heard me. God saw me. He loved me. He met me there. He quieted my mind and soul. And then He provided rest.

I have story after story of God’s faithfulness throughout my life. Stories of calling, healing, and provision. They are each amazing and wonderful. But it’s in these moments, where the Almighty God meets me in the tiny details of my life, that I’m blown away by the depths of His unfailing love.

How has God worked in the tiny details of your life? Has he used the “small things” to show you how He is faithful? Share your story or leave a prayer request.
