HOPE Academy Serve Day

HOPE Academy values community service not as a way to check a box, but to serve those who are in need as a greater good.

The theme verse for the 2018-2019 school year is Phillipians 1:6 which is very fitting as we do “Good Work.” “And I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”

Friday, May 17th will be the last “Serve Day” for the school year. This is such an important part of our community that we count it as a school day!

On Serve Day, our school families will head out to various organizations in our community. Parents, students, siblings, and staff volunteer for the day serving the needs of the greater Concord and Charlotte communities.

When we first started this endeavor, many families picked their own service project; cleaning, visiting the elderly, baking for Cabarrus County public servants, and writing cards. In recent years, we have organized teams led by HOPE parents who have charitable causes they are passionate about.

This Serve Day efforts will focus on the following organizations:

Cabarrus Meals on Wheels

Green Shoe Ministry

West Cabarrus Church

Brookdale Assisted Living Concord Parkway

New Hope Clothes Closet

Mainstreet Marketplace and Meeting Place

Our goal during this project day is to be “salt and light”. This means to serve happily and help lighten the burden to those who are already doing good in our community. Serve day also seeks to change perspective, training our students to see needs around them and ask, “how can I help”?

We are thankful for the service organizations that exist in our community. In just two weeks, we are excited to see what they do up close and work with them.

Be on the lookout for our group of cheerful volunteers in Concord and Charlotte on May 17th and may this event spur you on to volunteer as well!

“Let us consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds.” Hebrews 10:24
