If you Google the word “team”, you’ll find that it means: “to come together as a group to achieve a common goal”.

The Greater Cabarrus Athletic Association (GCAA) Stallions are a cross country team. Three Hope Academy students are a part of this group, Jake Honeycutt (7th grader), Noah Floge (10th grader), and Anya Floge (10th grader). HOPE Academy has a practices on campus Mondays after school led by Inger and David Floge, two GCAA Stallions’ coaches.

The Greater Cabarrus Athletic Association (GCAA) is a homeschool Christian athletic organization designed to provide families in and around Cabarrus County, North Carolina, the opportunity to play on a competitive sport teams.

“The goal of our program and all activities that we do is to promote and provide a Christian environment for spiritual and character growth that honors and glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ through competitive athletics,” according to the organization’s website.

GCAA allows a few small private schools to be a part of the Stallions team, because some schools do not have an athletics program or cannot support one. For Hope Academy students it provides a chance to run competitively and be part of a team within a Christian atmosphere.

In Jake Honeycutt’s first year on a cross country team he is setting personal bests and helping the team get points in races. He is hard working, enjoys practices, and likes to stay after his race to encourage his friends and teammates.

Noah Floge ran with the Stallions last year as a homeschool student and says he enjoyed it because the team was inviting to newcomers.

Anya Floge was on a cross country team in middle school and has run many 5Ks. She is happy to have a team to run with while keeping in shape for soccer.

The Stallions and all of its participants are very encouraging and team oriented. The coaches push the kids to do their best while having fun. The students from HOPE Academy are looking forward to this cross country season as each one aims for overall improvement and better personal best times.
