Fun Fact Friday – Snow

Fun Fact Friday – Snow

Some parts of our country have seen very little if any snow this winter, while other areas are surrounded by feet of snow. Whether you’re a fan of the white stuff or not, here are some fun facts, activities, and crafts that all have one thing in common – snow.

Snowflake

Did you know:

It’s a myth that no two snowflakes are the same, proven in 1988 by a scientist in Wisconsin.

All snowflakes have 6 sides because of their molecular makeup.

In an effort to stop the snow Syracuse, New York’s Common Council passed a decree in 1992 that any more snow before Christmas Eve was illegal. Funny enough it snowed just two days later.

Snow is actually colorless, the white color is sunlight reflecting off the snow.

The US averages 105 snow storms per year.

An average snowflake is made up of 180 billion molecules of water.
